My journey in salsa began in late September last year, and I had a huge yearning to be on the floor.
I started my classes with Empire Salsa, and before a month was over, I attended my first social at English Point. I quickly realized I still had a long way to go after stepping on my partner’s feet so many times that I felt I couldn’t do it anymore.
I went to Bliss Resort, and a similar situation occurred. At this point, I was losing it. But someone told me that they had been much, much worse than me.
I stayed consistent throughout my first three months and gave it my best.
I’m not at the beginner level anymore, and I’m happy I didn’t give up. I always asked for that dance, even though I knew I might mess it up, because it was the only way I could prove to myself that I had truly mastered a move.
I’m confident to say that I now get asked for a dance — and the first time it happened, I was super glad.
I’d like to mention a few who have helped me along the way. First up is everyone at Empire Salsa — Bella, Rokkens, Mareko, Sam, and others who have all been instrumental.
We’re not there yet, but I can say I’m not the same person I was six months ago.
